Jim Ledbetter was appointed
senior business editor of TIME Europe, Middle East
and Africa in October 2002, based at TIME’s
International headquarters in London.
Ledbetter brings a wealth of experience to the magazine.
In 2000 he launched the European edition of The Industry
Standard, the newsweekly that covered the Internet
boom, where he was editor-in-chief until 2001. Prior
to this, Ledbetter was the New York Bureau Chief
for The Industry Standard U.S. edition.
Ledbetter established his career in the 1990s and built-up
a strong reputation as a New York-based media reporter
and columnist for the Village Voice and The New York
Observer. In addition, he has written for dozens of
other publications, among them: The New York Times,
Slate, The Nation, The New Republic, The Washington
Post, GQ, Vibe, Mother Jones and Columbia Journalism
Review. Ledbetter has also written three books including
Starving to Death on $200 Million a Year: The Short,
Absurd Life of the Industry Standard, published in
spring 2003. Additionally, Ledbetter is editing, for
Penguin Classics, a collection of Karl Marx's journalism,
to be published in spring 2007.
