Abstract

This IDC study analyzes data from two IDC studies — the 2008 U.S. Service Provider Competition Survey and the 2007 U.S. Bundled Services Survey — to highlight consumer interest in home security and monitoring services. IDC supplements survey data with research and comparison of emerging home security/monitoring vendors to show how these services can be leveraged to reduce customer churn.

"As traditional double-play and triple-play bundles lose their stickiness with consumers, cable and telecommunications providers must search for new strategies to reduce churn and attract more customers," says Irene Berlinsky, research analyst, Multiplay Services. "The new generation of broadband-based, digital home security and monitoring systems can become a powerful player in the multiplay package and a cornerstone of the networked digital home."
