Abstract

This IDC study provides a comprehensive review of the worldwide disk storage systems market in 2007 and the two preceding years. The analysis focuses on various segments of the disk storage systems market, including external versus internal storage, different installation environments such as SAN and NAS, and various operating environments. The study provides market share data for the top 33 disk storage system suppliers in these market segments as well as a brief overview of each of the vendors included in this study.

"2007 marked another strong year for the disk storage systems market. The market grew 6.7% in 2007, from a factory revenue of $24.7 billion in 2006 to $26.4 billion in 2007," said Liz Conner, research analyst in IDC's Storage Systems group. "Network storage continued to be a hot play for many vendors worldwide. As companies are expanding globally, as well as internally, they have come to rely more and more heavily upon network storage to share and transfer data. This trend can be seen in the growth of network storage, with network storage capacity shipped exceeding that of direct attached for the second consecutive year and network storage revenue exceeding that of total direct attached for the first time in 2007."
