This IDC study details the recently conducted Mobile Enterprise Software Survey of 309 enterprise mobility decision makers. The survey results cover an extensive array of topics related to enterprise mobility. Key topics of coverage include budgets, priorities, decision factors, expectations, number of applications deployed, build or buy decisions, types of functions mobilized, types of client software used, mobile OSs supported, mobile email platforms used, types of mobile application platforms used, adoption of SaaS-based mobile offerings, use of application storefronts by enterprises, B2C mobile applications, prime suppliers for selection and deployment of mobile applications, deployment issues, and future investment in mobile technologies.
"The results of IDC's Mobile Enterprise Software Survey have provided us with a deeper understanding of the state of enterprise mobility in 2009, as well as planned investment over the next 12–18 months," says Sean Ryan, mobile enterprise research analyst at IDC. "Our findings point to the growing strategic importance of mobility solutions stemming from significant current and planned investment in such solutions. Our results also reveal that enterprises are taking a variety of approaches (operationally and technologically), still face deployment issues, and require guidance to make the most of their investments in mobility."
