Abstract

This IDC study discusses the findings of a QuickPoll survey fielded in July 2009 to gauge adoption of alternative office productivity tools and Microsoft SharePoint and to assess customer needs and priorities for content management.

"Microsoft continues to dominate the desktop office tools market, of course, but we are seeing increased adoption of Web-based office productivity tools such as Google Docs. It will be interesting to see how Microsoft's launch of Office Web Apps impacts this adoption," said Melissa Webster, IDC program vice president for Content and Digital Media Technologies. "SharePoint adoption continues to grow strongly, as organizations expand their use of SharePoint beyond portals and team sites to content management. Web content management may be the next area where content management vendors start to see increased competition from Microsoft."
