This IDC update captures near-verbatim notes from the session on data-intensive computing ("Big Data") at the HPC User Forum, April 16–18, 2012, at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, Virginia. The talks in this session explored the dimensions of data-intensive computing in HPC, including current and planned use cases as well as opportunities and challenges. As a group, the talks assessed the potential for data-intensive computing to change the HPC landscape over time.
