Abstract

This IDC study presents the vendor shares for the database development and management tools (DDMT) market in terms of total software revenue for 2009–2011. It also includes commentary and analysis regarding the market and a discussion of future options and opportunities.

"Strong growth in the database management systems (DBMS) markets helped fuel demand for database tools in 2011, but economic uncertainty, especially in Europe, tempered growth," says Carl Olofson, research vice president of Database Management and Data Integration Software research at IDC. "DBMS vendors have, for the most part, developed management tools sufficient to cover most of the prosaic aspects of database monitoring and management, so DDMT vendors need to think more strategically."
