Abstract

This IDC study presents IDC's taxonomy of the security products market. It provides the definitions of security products across four major platforms — software licenses, virtualization, appliances, and SaaS. It is the foundation for IDC's forecast and market share documents for security in 2012. The taxonomy is used by IDC analysts around the world to generate IDC market sizing, forecasts, and company models.

"IDC's security products taxonomy provides a standardized and detailed framework of security marketplace," says Christian A. Christiansen, program vice president for IDC's Worldwide Security Products and Services group. "The taxonomy is an essential resource for external vendors and internal IDC analysts for understanding how IDC defines security products in terms of software and hardware, virtualized products, and the emerging SaaS delivery model."
