This IDC study provides a review of the virtual machine software market, including 2011 vendor shares, as well as insights into the changing value focus of the virtualization market. Gary Chen, research manager, Cloud and Virtualization System Software, says, "Virtual machine software had a good year in 2011 and continues to be an indispensable foundational component of datacenters and clouds. VMware continues to dominate this market, but competitors are still improving and showing some minor gains. However, more significant gains by competitors won't likely happen until 2013, given the timing of new product releases and customer adoption patterns."
