Abstract

This IDC study examines the U.S. mobile messaging market and forecasts total messaging traffic and total revenue for the 2012–2016 period. Total messaging traffic, including SMS and MMS messages, will cross the 3.4 trillion mark in 2016.

"Mobile messaging is moving beyond teenagers and young adults and infiltrating older generations," says John Weber, associate research analyst, IDC's Mobile Consumer Services. "As smartphones and other data devices are adopted by consumers, and UIs become considerably more user-friendly, look for increased mobile messaging across varying U.S. demographics over the next several years."
