Abstract

This IDC study provides our server market share based on the server taxonomy that was updated in 1Q11. Specifically, this study presents the latest annual worldwide and U.S. views based on actual data through year-end 2011. Worldwide server factory revenue increased 5.8% from $49.4 billion in 2010 to $52.3 billion in 2011.

"The business climate has returned to a more stable and predictable state as the recession of 2009 and 2010 has ended and users are once again cautiously refreshing their IT infrastructures," said Lloyd Cohen, research director of IDC's Enterprise Platforms group. "Users continue to move away from proprietary systems and adopt an x86-based infrastructure that is more power efficient and provides a lower total cost of ownership."
