Abstract

This IDC study provides a sizing of the database development and management tools (DDMT) market in 2011 and a 2012–2016 forecast for this market. Historical and forecast revenue data is shown for the total worldwide market and by geographic region and by operating environment. It also includes key forecast assumptions and commentary on the market and its forecast.

"The database world is in a state of transition along several dimensions, offering a confusing mix of seemingly contradictory requirements for database development and management tools," says Carl Olofson, research vice president for Database Management and Data Integration Software at IDC. "On the one hand, databases are getting larger and more complex and are being deployed on more sophisticated platforms, while on the other hand, DBMS software is featuring more self-managing and self-tuning capabilities. Database administrators are being challenged to do more with less, and new mandates are coming down for such things as data governance, requiring new management functionality from DDMT."
