This IDC study examines the Big Data infrastructure market. The study describes IDC's definition of Big Data and the criteria and methodology for the infrastructure components that support most Big Data deployments. This study segments Big Data infrastructure into server, storage, and networking. Software and services are not discussed in this study. IDC expects Big Data infrastructure to continue be in a state of flux as more businesses deploy Big Data projects and as more vendors create offerings for supporting such projects. "Virtualization and cloud will drive the eventual commoditization of Big Data, allowing businesses to quickly deploy Big Data projects at lower and measurable dollar-per-IOPS, dollar-per-transaction, and dollar-per-gigbyte costs," said Ashish Nadkarni, research director at IDC.
