Abstract

This IDC study examines the worldwide data loss prevention (DLP) market for the period from 2011 to 2016. Worldwide market sizes and trends are provided for 2011, and a five-year growth forecast for this market is shown for the 2012–2016 period. This study also identifies current trends in the DLP market and addresses the characteristics that vendors will need to be successful in the future.

"Large enterprises continue to be the sweet spot for full-scale DLP deployments, while SMBs and smaller firms generally adopt more point-product solutions, or utilize DLP features in other platforms such as Web and messaging gateways, or next-generation firewalls," says Phil Hochmuth, program manager for IDC's Security Products Research. "Leveraging untrusted environments — cloud/BYOD, mobile — as part of an overall IT strategy requires technologies that can identify and secure sensitive data and information as it migrates from protected, parameterized environments into cloud platforms and mobile devices."
