This IDC study provides 2008–2011 revenue data and a 2012–2016 forecast for the worldwide public platform-as-a-service (PaaS) market. The opportunities for monetizing public PaaS functionality seem boundless in light of the advances being made in social, mobile, and real-time contextual activities. Each of these drivers is closely linked to the cloud and acts as a force multiplier in both driving public PaaS demand and leveraging public PaaS capabilities.
By 2016, public PaaS will account for 8.5% of overall AD&D revenue, with strong growth occurring in every region of the world, especially APJ. "The CAGR for the worldwide public PaaS 2011–2016 forecast is 30.9%," said Stephen D. Hendrick, group vice president for Application Development and Deployment research. "The 41.8% growth in the public PaaS market in 2011 suggests an exciting future for the worldwide public PaaS market."
