This IDC Insight explores the market for mobile collaboration software. Most often, mobile collaboration solutions are extensions of back-end collaboration applications or components of platforms that have already been deployed to desktops. However, the mobile application often contains specific functionality that is better suited toward a mobile working environment and may be built to take advantage of unique mobile device capabilities. In some cases, mobile collaboration products may also be standalone mobile applications. Although mobile collaboration technologies may be implemented to achieve similar business results, the individual products themselves cross against several IDC markets, so we provide detailed analyses of each of those within this study. These markets include mobile email, mobile unified communications and collaboration (MUC&C), mobile content collaboration, and mobile social solutions.
