This IDC study examines the hosted private cloud (HPC) market, composed of dedicated private cloud (DPC) services and virtual private cloud (VPC) services, for 2011, with a five-year growth forecast for 2012–2016 and with trends and forecast assumptions for the same period. This study represents the first time IDC has published a view of this market.
"Both enterprise customers and IT providers are rapidly looking to cloud in its various forms as a means to transform and become more efficient and scalable," according to Robert P. Mahowald, research vice president for SaaS and Cloud Software. "Hosted private cloud is an operational model for deploying infrastructure services of many types via a cloud model, both using shared virtualized computing assets (virtual private cloud) and dedicated 1:1 physical compute and storage resources (dedicated private cloud), which together offer both providers and customers very different choices about resource dedication, tenancy, cost, and control of over the computing asset, giving them a much greater confidence about using cloud and hosted models. The result is a blossoming market for HPC infrastructure services, growing to more than $24 billion by 2016, at a CAGR of more than 50.4%."
