This IDC study examines the storage component of the Big Data infrastructure market. The study describes IDC's definition of Big Data and the criteria and methodology for the storage components that support most Big Data deployments. IDC expects storage to dominate the Big Data infrastructure stack. This is because as more businesses deploy Big Data and analytics environments, they will identify newer data sets to analyze and retain more data in their infrastructure.
"An explosion in the amount of data storage will compel businesses to examine storage environments that offer consistent but lower and measurable dollar per IOPS, dollar per transaction, and dollar per gigabyte costs," said Ashish Nadkarni, research director at IDC. "This in turn will compel suppliers to crank up innovation in this market."
