This IDC Presentation discusses how IDC established a relationship with a mobile gaming analytics start-up called App Annie in late 2012 (see www.appannie.com). App Annie tracks iOS and Google Play game downloads and consumer spending in particular detail. Together with IDC's in-depth tracking of dedicated handheld gaming devices and packaged software sales, smartphone and tablet and installed bases, and so forth, it's possible to create a rather comprehensive view of portable gaming dynamics on a quarterly basis.
This Presentation is the first deliverable based on IDC's relationship with App Annie. After establishing some context, the Presentation compares iOS, Google Play, and dedicated handheld gaming from several perspectives in 4Q12. The Presentation also identifies the quarter's top-grossing portable games worldwide (and which companies developed them) and offers some guidance.
