This IDC study provides an estimate of the size of the search and content analytics software market in 2012 and a forecast for the growth of the market through 2017.
"The search and content analytics software market grew at 1.5% in 2012 compared with a growth rate of 10.4% in 2011, resulting in an overall software license revenue total of $2.53 billion for the calendar year. The market growth rate in 2012 was negatively impacted because of one-time revenue drops of two leading vendors. We don't expect these 2012 performance decreases to affect the market in 2013," said David Schubmehl, research director, Search and Content Analytics. "IDC expects overall search and content analytics market growth to return to the mid-single-digit range in the 2013–2017 period. Overall, this is a story of three submarkets that are becoming more distinct: a growing content analytics market, an emerging unified information access market, and a declining enterprise search market. We are seeing the transformation of a market focused on traditional enterprise search to a market of agile mobile, desktop, and cloud-based technologies focused on extracting value, meaning, and learning from unstructured information in order to improve decision making."
