This IDC study identifies some of the implications of the four pillars of the 3rd Platform — mobile, cloud, social, and Big Data — on current job roles within organizations as well as the demand for new roles and skills. CIOs and hiring managers find themselves competing for a limited number of qualified candidates and must execute short-term and longer-term strategies to ensure they have the skills they need for the future. This study provides enterprises with eight recommendations for identifying and developing talent in important but hard-to-fill positions.
"IDC believes it is more economical for an organization to identify the specific mix of skills needed and seek the best training possible to develop those skills. The first priority for most organizations is to document those needed skills and screen incoming candidates for potential to fill those future roles, more than selecting candidates for skills," says Cushing Anderson, vice president, IT Education and Certification Research.
