This IDC study discusses how CIOs and other IT executives from across the globe are doing with respect to some of their top agenda items. With insight gained from a recent global study with 145 CIOs and IT executives, we explore the progress IT executives are making on their personal agenda as they work toward a better alignment with the business. We present research findings from a study with 1,227 business technology buyers about their perceptions of IT. In conclusion, we identify areas where IT needs to improve and propose a plan for the way that IT executives need to evolve their IT organizations for the 3rd Platform of computing.
"As IT organizations evolve from uncoordinated efforts between business and IT around 3rd Platform implementations to an effective partnership between business and IT, many dimensions of the IT organization need to be transformed," says Meredith Whalen, senior vice president, IT Executive, Industry, and Financial Research. "Those organizations that are able to achieve a highly orchestrated partnership between IT and the business will be able to outpace competitors through the use of 3rd Platform technologies."
