This IDC study presents forecasts for the worldwide and U.S. custom application development (CAD) services market for 2014–2018. Discrete CAD services spending grew at an estimated 2.7% worldwide and reached an estimated $39.2 billion in 2013. IDC estimates that global demand for CAD services will grow at 4.6% in 2014, driven largely by increased adoption of cloud solutions as well as further investment in mobile applications and new frontiers for the Internet of things (IoT).
Pete Marston, research manager for IDC's Application Development, Testing, and Management Services, explains, "IDC believes that cloud services and mobile technologies will continue to disrupt the CAD services markets and will be forces for growth in the years ahead. Greater proliferation of the Internet of things will also be an area of growth for service providers as they aid customers with harnessing the power of connected devices and peripherals and linking them to business processes with data to enable greater business insight, enhanced decision making, and improved customer experiences."
