This IDC study highlights the importance of preserving reliable cybersecurity as a key element in all IT planning as enterprises migrate to the 3rd Platform of computing. Concerns about security are now advancing at a rapid rate as measured in terms of share of the IT spending budget. IT executives must now shift attention from deterring attackers as attackers are evolving at a faster rate than conventional IT planning efforts. The ability to achieve acceptable levels of security has now become one of the principal inhibitions to proceed with new systems, which must be able to show that they can be resistant to security compromises.
"Attackers are now mounting targeted attacks that require protective defenses with adaptive defenses as well as human-based intelligence," says Paul Strassmann, adjunct analyst with IDC's Research Network. "The enterprise infrastructure that supports applications must now include all countermeasures that protect against rapidly changing conditions."
