This IDC Presentation provides analysis and findings from a North America–wide study of firms that are current and past users of Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) offerings. This presentation provides insights into the adoption and usage trends for AWS compute services and examines the factors that influence firms' adoption of — and churn from — AWS compute services. Surveyed firms were broadly classified into three groups: firms with fewer than 1,000 employees, firms with 1,000-9,999 employees, and firms with more than 10,000 employees.
"Cloud computing and storage services are growing at a rapid rate. We undertook this survey to examine the market for these services by honing in on the pioneer in the IaaS field, namely Amazon Web Services," said Kelly Quinn, research manager, Datacenter Trends & Strategies. "Although AWS led the market for deployment of these services, AWS is under threat from competitors offering compelling alternatives. This presentation examines what users value about AWS compute services, what is problematic for users, and where AWS' competitive threats lie."
