This IDC study discusses the worldwide archiving software market, which is made up of revenue from both on-premise archiving software and public cloud archiving. Included is revenue from both leading software-as-a-service (SaaS) companies and independent software vendors (ISVs). The market reached $1.5 billion in spending in 2014, but with only modest growth of 0.7% over 2013.
According to Laura DuBois, program vice president for Storage at IDC, "We expect the market to grow 3.9% on a compound basis from 2014 to 2019. This market growth is a result of increased adoption of public cloud archiving offerings, either net-new opportunities or displacement of legacy archive solutions. While the overall market is growing, on-premise solutions are growing at a modest 1.1% CAGR and public cloud archiving offerings are growing at a 9.3% CAGR. Clearly, the archiving software market growth is fueled by demand for public cloud archiving services."
A factor that influences the 2014 and 2015 growth rates is the value of the US dollar against regional currencies. As explained in the Methodology section of this document, individual countries contribute to regional totals and regional totals contribute to worldwide totals. The movement of the U.S. dollar against major regional currencies results in a conservative outlook for regional market growth trends.
