The worldwide public cloud platform-as-a-service competitive market grew by about 41% in 2014, after 11% decline in 2013, forming a market that is about $6 billion in size. This market is expected to grow from about $6 billion in 2014 to over $22 billion in 2019, with a CAGR of over 30% for the period.
This IDC study presents a view of PaaS revenue from the historical year 2014 through the forecast period 2015–2019. It includes high-level breakdowns of PaaS submarkets and geographic regions and offers analysis of key trends, including revenue growth drivers and inhibitors.
"Digitization of the enterprise is increasingly being adopted to meet competitive pressures from start-ups," says Larry Carvalho, research manager, Platform as a Service at IDC. "The growth of data through mobile devices, sensors, and social networks is influencing organizations to leverage cloud infrastructure to meet these emerging challenges. The projected growth of PaaS reflects the increasing demands for applications."
