Abstract

This IDC study presents an update on the mobile phone market in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ, along with market sizing data for both feature phones and smartphones in 2011, as well as forecast data for the 2012–2016 period. Breakdowns by vendor, country, OS, and air interface are also included to provide greater insight into APEJ dynamics.

"Samsung and Apple have been the joint winners in the 2011 APEJ smartphone war, with Samsung offering a complete lineup, from top to bottom, and Apple with its one-man army. We expect to see a lot more action building up, with Nokia coming back to reclaim its leading position in APEJ markets, and Chinese vendors Huawei, ZTE, and Lenovo bringing better hardware and software experience to consumers beyond China borders," says Kiranjeet Kaur, market analyst, Client Devices, Domain Research Group, IDC Asia/Pacific.
