Abstract

This IDC study presents the Australian IT services market five-year forecast for the period 2011–2016. The IT services market is on the threshold of the growing impact of the emerging third platform. This platform, as IDC predicted in 2011, comprises cloud, mobile broadband, and mobile devices, and on top of these are new technologies like social media and Big Data. Rounding out the new platform and leveraging the new platform will be the emergence of a whole new variety of intelligent industry solutions that will drive enterprise IT growth for the next two decades.

"There is tremendous scope for IT innovation at the enterprise level by exploiting the phenomenal potential of social media, business analytics, mobility, and cloud computing to drive business growth," says Raj Mudaliar, senior market analyst, IT services.

"The C-suite expectations from IT now have changed and they see it to be an integral part of the business strategy rather than a support function. In this context, CIOs are under tremendous pressure to not only keep the lights on when it comes to supporting operations but are also expected to drive enterprise IT innovation."
