Abstract

This IDC study provides a detailed analysis of the status and future development of the consumer VoIP services market in the EMEA region. It looks at the extent to which consumers use VoIP services by EMEA sub-region, analyzes providers' success in monetizing consumer VoIP services, and considers the strategies that different types of VoIP service providers can employ to best sell their services.

"Consumers in the EMEA region are using VoIP services more often to carry their fixed voice traffic. Thus far, VoIP service providers have had mixed success in monetizing their services. VoIP offers opportunities but also poses challenges to many telecommunications players in the EMEA region, especially to telecom operators that will have to contend with declining traditional fixed voice subscriber bases. All telecommunications companies, but especially telecom operators, will have to consider how VoIP fits into their broader strategies to successfully develop their consumer VoIP services." Senior Research Analyst Matthew Marden, IDC CEMA Telecommunications
