Cloud computing technology has been making inroads in several industry verticals in China, especially in banking, telecommunications, and government. In comparison, healthcare cloud adoption is at a very early stage. However, as the Chinese healthcare industry takes steps toward achieving its goal of healthcare reforms, cloud services will play an important role. This IDC Health Insights study looks into the models of cloud technology used in the Chinese healthcare industry. It examines the current cloud status of cloud adoption as well as analyzes the future trends for adoption in the hospitals, Regional Health Information Systems (RHIS), and the community.
"Cloud technology is being adopted by large hospitals in China. Server, storage, and desktop virtualization are currently being piloted. In the future, cloud technologies are predicted to be widely adopted by hospitals at the RHIS and PHIS levels. China is ripe for adoption of the community cloud model given the government's long-term plans for cross-organization collaboration across the care continuum. However, there is a strong need for industry-specific standards for a more widespread adoption," says Leon Xiao, senior research manager at IDC Health Insights.
