This IDC Energy Insights study provides an analysis of the results of the annual IDC Energy Insights Survey, covering France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the U.K. The analysis is focused on the utilities industry and on 117 interviews carried out between August to the end of October 2012. The purpose of this study is to understand plans to invest in IT solutions (both enterprise management and LoB solutions) and also investment plans on new technologies. This is the third study in a series of three, covering the survey carried out on utilities. The first study describes survey methodology, while the second analyzes ICT budget spending distribution and patterns in evolution, channel selection, and satisfaction with primary IT suppliers among utility enterprises in Western Europe.
"Utilities have never been more demanding of their solution investments, expecting cost reductions, enhanced efficiencies, and compliancy from future-proof solutions," said Gaia Gallotti, research manager, IDC Energy Insights. "Over the next 12 months, utilities expect heightened priority for their LoB solution investments, especially supply chain management solutions taking the lead, followed by environment, health, and safety (EH&S), engineering and design, billing, customer care, meter data management (MDM), and energy trading and risk management (ETRM)."
