This IDC Energy Insights study analyzes the results of the annual IDC Energy Insights Survey covering France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the U.K. Analysis focuses on the utilities industry and on 117 interviews carried out between August and October 2014. The purpose of this report is to understand plans to invest in IT solutions (both enterprise management and line-of-business solutions). This is the third report of a series covering the survey carried out on utilities. The first report describes survey methodology, while the second analyzes ICT budget spending distribution and patterns in evolution as well as satisfaction with primary IT suppliers among utility enterprises in Western Europe. IDC Energy Insights will publish additional reports examining Western European utilities' adoption and investment plans for the four pillars (Big Data/analytics, mobility, cloud, and social) as well as a report specifically extrapolating and addressing data regarding utility retailers.
"According to this year's survey results, one in every two Western European energy retailers will invest in a new customer care solution," said Gaia Gallotti, research manager, IDC Energy Insights. "Additionally, on the asset side, utility survey respondents indicated that asset management, engineering and design, and plant maintenance are the top 3 LOB IT solutions that will experience investments in new solutions with 46.7%, 45.3%, and 44% of respondents, respectively."
