This IDC study provides guidance to enterprises interested in establishing or improving sourcing management practices to manage the technology portfolio within the enterprise. In particular, the fast evolution of technology market requires vendor and sourcing management (VSM) practices to apply a more strategic role to market intelligence.
"Enterprises that apply strategic sourcing practices should use tools and methodologies (such as the product life cycle) to pay more attention to identifying the products and services that can add business value to their organizations," said Massimiliano Claps, research director, IDC EMEA. "The objective is to develop continuous intelligence of the market to understand the evolution of product features and functions, how they can be combined into a suitable solution, which ones are becoming obsolete, whether there are new entrants disrupting the market in terms of quality of products or pricing, and so forth."
