This IDC Health Insights Perspective summarizes the key takeaways from the different sessions of the 3rd IDC Health Insights Pan European Healthcare Executive Summit in September 2015, in Dublin. The summit brought together a select group of leading European healthcare professionals (providers, CIOs, CEOs, medical directors, public health authorities, and healthcare payers) to discuss how technology is reforming the delivery of care, supporting the changing healthcare delivery ecosystem, and promoting cost-effective and high-quality care. The theme for this year was: "Removing friction, harnessing the convergence, making integrated care work."
Integrated and personalized care relies on greater convergence along the health value chain. This convergence is driven by the need to understand and address current and future health needs in innovative, safe, and sustainable ways. Collaboration and health information sharing is at the heart of this new paradigm. Making integrated care a reality requires hospitals and other healthcare providers to:
- Redefine their roles into flexible and wider collaboration networks, which extend to social care, public health, and research organizations
- Identify where resistance in the paradigm shift occurs and determine organizational, process, and technological requirements to overcome it
- Approach health information management differently: enabling flexible but resilient information networks that can tactically and strategically support integrated care objectives
