This IDC study presents an overview of the IT spending by vertical market in Western Europe and a forecast of the IT spending in the region until 2019. Four-year forecasts derived from both demand-side and supply-side information as well as an analysis of expected trends in Western European verticals are provided.
Spending data is provided for 2014–2019, segmented into the following vertical markets: banking, insurance, securities and investment services, discrete manufacturing, process manufacturing, retail, wholesale, professional services, personal and consumer services, healthcare, transportation, telecommunications, media, utilities, construction, resource industries, central government, local government, education, and home business and consumer.
"IDC expects growth to be stronger in highly consumer-oriented verticals such as services, retail, and communications but weaker in sectors deeply affected by the recession such as government, education, and construction," said Andrea Minonne, research analyst, IDC European Industry Solutions. In particular, professional services and retail will have the highest expected growth over the forecast period. For these sectors, it is extremely important to introduce tech-based solutions to optimize internal processes and enhance customer or client satisfaction. We expect governments to rationalize their IT expenditures, and vendors must focus on educating the public sector about the benefits technology could bring."
