This IDC study presents detailed data and analysis for the Western European server market and examines historical data from IDC's EMEA Quarterly Server Tracker and forecast data from IDC's EMEA Quarterly Server Forecast for 2012–2016. IDC estimates a Western European CAGR of around -3.1% for combined x86 and non-x86 revenue in 2011–2016. x86 revenue CAGR for the same period will stay flat at -2.4% and non-x86 (RISC/CISC/EPIC) will display more sluggish performance, down by 4%.
"There are areas of opportunity in the mature economies of Western Europe: datacenter optimizations to support virtualization, automation, and cloud strategies are forecast to continue driving demand, particularly private cloud deployments, and virtualization," said Beatriz Valle, senior research analyst, Enterprise Server Group, IDC EMEA. "Big HPC projects and investment in public cloud infrastructures from hosting providers and Web 2.0 players will also drive additional opportunities."
