Abstract

This IDC Insight provides an overview of the German server market, with the main focus being on smaller local vendors. A large number of Mittelstand companies have successfully been active in Germany for decades, covering all aspects of IT with their main business being in software, consulting, and implementation services. However, over the last few years some vendors have also emerged in the hardware business, offering their own branded servers usually bundled with their cloud solutions. Some of these vendors will be analyzed in more detail, and their products and market strategies evaluated. It will also be established why these firms are particularly strong in Germany, with a view on German clients' purchasing criteria and larger vendors' choices to address local needs. Moreover, German vendors' export and international expansion strategies will be discussed.
