This IDC Health Insights report summarizes the results from a recent study to identify and characterize the top 10 contract research organizations (CROs) serving the life science market. The 2011 IDC Health Insights top 10 life science CRO vendor assessment report includes expanded insights into the key factors that differentiate the major players in the market, recognizing that many of the top companies are private and do not disclose their business data.
Alan Louie, Ph.D., research director at IDC Health Insights, said, "The life science industry is undergoing transformational change, and top CROs will play an increasingly important role as the industry overall pursues global growth and long-term sustainability. Scale, preferred sponsor relationships, strategic partnerships, collaborations, information transparency, and cost-competitive offerings will be key factors impacting CRO success. At the same time, CROs need to keep their eyes open as competitive pressures from other industry players, including IT systems integrators and other specialists, threaten to more effectively deliver services at lower price points. For all players (both sponsors and vendors), continuing innovation and evolution will be critical to staying on top in an industry that is well along on the path to long-term transformation."
