This IDC Health Insights study looks at how local government authorities and the National Health Service (NHS), together with their technology partner BT, have sought to address the challenges in providing integrated care to the citizens of Cornwall. Faced with flat budgets and an ever-increasing demand for services, the council and NHS decided to collaborate and use technology to drive efficiency and better patient/citizen outcomes.
This study also looks at how BT has worked with both institutions to provide telecare and telehealth solutions and meet the needs of providers and consumers. It describes the implementation and future development of the BT Cornwall partnership, highlighting benefits achieved so far, key success factors, and lessons learned. Leveraging its analysis of the project, IDC Health Insights also provides a series of recommendations for healthcare providers that want to adopt telehealth/telecare solutions.
"Telehealth and telecare should be seen as long-term strategic investments that require a multidimensional approach," said Silvia Piai, senior research manager, IDC Health Insights, and Mike Cansfield, associate vice president, IDC EMEA Telecom. Healthcare providers that want to leverage the benefits offered by telecare and telehealth solutions should plan the deployment as a key part of an end-to-end integrated care strategy that takes into consideration overall business objectives, new process technology, and organizational aspects.
