Telecom Industry Results 2011: Struggling in a Time of Plenty
12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m., U.S. Eastern Time
The telecom industry is facing the best and the worst times. It is the best because data revenues are soaring thanks to a flood of must-have devices. It is the worst of times because costs are rising faster than revenue. Based on IDC's Global Telecom Indicators database, this Web conference will highlight the successes and failures in the 2011 $1.5 trillion industry. Through analysis of connections, revenues, capital spending, and profitability, IDC analysts will characterize the profiles of commodity bit pipe players, fast growth capacity builders, and full service providers with content distribution and ICT cloud services.
Key questions to be addressed include:
- What percent of industry revenues were invested in network infrastructure and spectrum assets in 2011, and projections for 2012? What is the capital intensity pattern by carrier and geography?
- How do carriers and geographies have the largest mobile data revenues? How does that compare for growth rate of revenue and for mobile data revenues as a percent of total service revenues?
- What was the average revenue growth among the top 25 carriers, and what carriers were above and below the average revenue growth?
- What were the average EBITDA and operating income margins for the top 25 carriers, and what carriers out-performed and under-performed?
- Which carriers generate the highest proportion of non-telecom revenue (video, security, professional services, hosting, cloud services, etc.)?
