This IDC Web conference will delve into one of the hottest trends in IT: tablet usage in the workplace and its impact on traditional business computing. The presence of tablets in U.S. small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) grew over 100% in 2012. With 70 to 80% of these new mobile devices being implemented on a bring your own device (BYOD) basis, IT managers and CTOs are quickly finding it critical to create new deployment and access policies that can also result in increased productivity and lower hardware management costs. Software vendors are excited about using this new platform to drive innovation, bringing increasingly robust and mobile capabilities to the corporate IT space.
This presentation will offer an outline of IDC's forecast for tablet adoption and usage within U.S. SMBs, with a comparison to enterprise adoption trends also included. BYOD versus corporate-purchased and liable deployment policies will be discussed, as will what key applications are driving tablet usage now, and how that will change in the long term. IDC's SMB analysts will draw out similarities and differences between business size segments and which vertical industries are near-term targets for higher-than-average adoption.
Session Speakers:
- Raymond Boggs, Vice President, Small/Medium Business and Home Office Research
