Abstract

This study provides a competitive analysis with an IDC Leadership Grid ranking the leading vendors in DVD solutions. The four vendors assessed were MokaFive, RingCube, Sentillion, and VMware. Each solution was examined in regards to its capabilities, as well as the vendors' market presence and potential. Detailed scoring explanations are given across 10 categories.

Analysis found that each vendor had its own strength and weaknesses. However, in IDC's general assessment, RingCube ranked first in capabilities with its product vDesk, while VMware captures top place for market position with ACE.

"Market maturity remains early for DVD and desktop virtualization in general, but greatly increased business interest is starting to drive more adoption. Although approaches to DVD are developing rapidly from a technical perspective, businesses will find that vendors such as MokaFive, Sentillion, RingCube, and VMware provide solutions that are mature enough to deploy, and suitable for a variety of different business scenarios," said Matthew McCormack, client computing consultant for IDC's European Systems Group. "2009 will be a developmental year for desktop virtualization technology with lots of pilot activity. Onwards from 2010, we'll see the technology begin to enter the mainstream."
