Abstract

This IDC study, which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J12150101, analyzes the trends and differences in the worldwide and Japan mobile and client computing markets. It also identifies the situation in the Japan market. Products covered in the study are smartphones, media tablets, and client PCs (excluding x86 servers). The annual data presented in this study up to 2011 and quarterly data up to 4Q11 (October–December) are actual values. All data are updated as of March 2012.

"PC shipments to employed workforce population ratio in the Japan business market is about 10 points lower than in the U.S. market. One reason is the insufficient IT utilization in non-manufacturing industries, such as the service industry. PC vendors should reconsider proposals that make full use of IT," says Hirotoshi Asano, senior market analyst, PC, Mobile and Client Solutions, IDC Japan.
