This IDC study, which is a translation of the Japan document IDC #J15010181, highlights IDC's top 10 predictions with regard to notable trends in the Japan communications and network market in 2015, presenting both analyses and overviews. The study also provides essential guidance for telcos and vendors.
The Japan communications and network market faces structural changes as the transition to the 3rd Platform accelerates. The transition to the 3rd Platform remains the driving force behind changes in the market, including changes to the criteria by which the value provided by communications services are judged and acceleration of the move among telcos to establish new bases for revenue. Meanwhile, as the Internet of things (IoT) rapidly becomes the subject of more attention, it is expected that it will expand in a variety of ways, including by being implemented in industries that would appear to have less affinity with IoT and by being used by companies to increase their own value. "As the move to the 3rd Platform accelerates, telcos will, in response to structural changes in the market, need to implement changes to communications services to match increased use of the cloud, undertake more efforts aimed at establishing new bases for revenue for themselves, and make other adjustments to product/service strategies and business portfolios," argues IDC Japan Communications Group Manager Kenichi Kusano.
