Abstract

This IDC study, which is a translation of the Japanese document IDC #J12100104, is an update of the performance of the Japan small and medium-sized business (SMB) IT market in 2011 and market forecasts for 2012–2016 by company size, product, industry segment, region, and prefecture based on the latest economic situation, product information gathered from vendor surveys conducted up to April 2012, and results of the Japan SMB user survey conducted in February 2012. Entering 2012, many companies continue to hold back on IT spending due to Japan's uncertain economy. Due to accelerated pace of overseas expansion in SMBs, IT spending in Japan is expected to remain curtailed in the future.

"It is necessary for IT vendors to take aggressive steps to uncover the hidden needs of SMBs, in order to expand the market," says Hitoshi Ichimura, market analyst, IT Spending, IDC Japan.
