This IDC study takes into account the product information based on the vendor survey until September 2015, and the current economic situation to provide the estimate for the Japan small and medium-sized business (SMB) IT market spending during 2015, as well as the forecast for the period 2016–2019 by employee size, product category, industry, region, prefecture, and annual sales.
Although the SMB IT market is forecast to grow steadily from 2016 onward, the region-wise spending indicates that the gap in IT spending growth rate is growing between metropolitan areas and nonmetropolitan areas. The gap in terms of utilization trends of IT solutions such as cloud and mobile is also increasing between the metropolitan and nonmetropolitan areas. Therefore, "IT vendors should review the approach adopted by SMBs depending on the region," says Hitoshi Ichimura, research manager, IT spending, IDC Japan.
