This IDC study provides an analysis of awareness of custom-designed servers through original device manufacturer (ODM) direct channels and the like on the part of enterprises in Japan (excluding IT service providers), and the possibilities for their adoption going forward based on the results of a user survey. It also provides forecasts of the market size for custom-designed servers in the Japan server market based on that analysis. IDC Japan's Enterprise Infrastructure Group Manager Satoshi Fukutomi explains, "In the Japan x86 server market, rather than expanding sales of ODM direct and in-house brand servers to companies not in IT services, ODMs should choose to engage in activities that will accelerate the trending shift from the use of on-premises systems to cloud systems. For example, using funds that would be spent on promoting increased sales as resources for further reducing ODM direct sales prices for IT services companies that provide cloud services in Japan would have a higher chance of being an effective investment."
