Abstract

This IDC Presentation estimates the total floor space and spending of newly constructed datacenters in Japan. It also analyzes the number of sites and total floor space according to datacenter size. Datacenters in this presentation are categorized into Internet datacenters and enterprise datacenters.

The construction demand for large-scale Internet datacenters is growing, which brings the challenge of how to reduce the initial cost and the running cost. Meanwhile, due to aging datacenters and insufficient capacity such as power supply capacity, the aggregation to large-scale datacenters continues in enterprise datacenters. "In terms of Internet and enterprise datacenter physical infrastructure, datacenter solution providers that offer products and services should focus their efforts on proposing solutions that will reduce running cost in new Internet datacenters. Furthermore, their proposals for new construction projects following enterprise datacenter site aggregation should also include backup sites," says Akiko Kawakami, research manager, Communications, IDC Japan.
