This IDC Manufacturing Insights report analyzes the data privacy findings from IDC Manufacturing Insights' 2013 Consumer Connected Vehicle Study and the repercussions for OEMs in the automotive industry.
"The ability for cars to communicate not only with one another but with their environment continues to develop. Of course, as with many communication technologies, there is concern over how the data will be leveraged and how consumer privacy will be ensured. OEMs must craft a systematic strategy not only to demonstrate the benefits of such technology but also to ease consumers' concerns," says Kimberly Knickle, practice director, IDC Manufacturing Insights. "To take full advantage of the data available from the connected vehicle in operation and the ability to communicate remotely with the vehicle, manufacturers must continue to invest in their processes and partnerships, not just the communication technology and applications."
